A quick update (and why things took longer)


Hello everyone!

I’d like to apologize to those who are waiting for an update on this project. Progress is slow but steady.

The main reason for the delay is that I ended up adding too many things after the jam (save progress, multiple levels, fixes, code optimizations, new sounds…). But mainly, I’m revamping all the 16×16 pixel assets to 32×32, hoping to give the game a solid QoL update before adding even more levels. It will take some time now, but it will make things faster later when I add the rest of the levels. Also, this is no longer a game jam project so the game needs better overall quality.

As soon as I have something working, I’ll make another release. I’ll probably postpone non-essential features (like achievements or leaderboards) so I can get a second version out with the new map and graphics as soon as possible.

Here’s a picture of some of the progress (high priests and priests). I’m changing everything, icons, backgrounds, animations… I’m hoping the game will look much better and really convey the dark atmosphere I’m aiming for.

Also, on another note, I needed a break because working on the same project nonstop isn’t easy, so I took a small detour and made a short game for the Mini Jam 198. It really helped me clear my mind and come back to Masks of Madness with renewed energy.

I’m now fully committed to MoM and focused on getting this next big update out as soon as possible.
