Recording more prayers to add some variety.

The technique I’m using is roughly the same as the one used in Eyes Wide Shut for the “Masked Ball” scene. They recorded samples from a Romanian Orthodox liturgy and reversed the audio, which was used in the infamous mansion scene where everyone was wearing masks. The sound design in that scene is just sublime.

Without the big studio budget, I’m doing something similar. I’m translating phrases like “wake up” or “hear our prayers” into Romanian, recording them in Audacity, removing background noise, reversing the audio, and lowering the pitch to make it sound a bit deeper. The result is very eerie. The process itself is super fun, and I’m really happy with the results.
I’m adding female followers soon, so I’ll ask my wife to record some prayers to The Sleeper too. :-)
